Teoh Poh Yew is a very experienced international trainer in the fields of creativity, maths education and training of trainers’ programmes. Always innovative and enthusiastic, Poh Yew captivates her audience with her boundless energy and her unique magical approach in training. She conducts extremely innovative workshops for teachers, trainers, parents and students in 12 countries around the world such as Malaysia, Singapore, China, Bulgaria, Denmark, United States, Germany, etc. She has also published three books on mathematical magic. She appears regularly on TV, radio and in magazines and newspapers. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree, specialising in Education (1989) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
A dynamic and creative Maths educator, Poh Yew firmly believes that everyone can learn and enjoy this “dreaded” subject. She particularly enjoys helping children, especially those who believe they have no ability in mathematical problem solving.
Her career spans over a decade as a Secondary level Maths teacher and a school counsellor. Her major interest is to transform Maths into a tool to develop a child’s creativity, enhance mathematical thinking skills and sharpen problem solving abilities. She inspires children to approach this subject with confidence and enthusiasm. Her unflinching belief in the natural abilities of children is a quality that serves to transform little lives from a state of breakdown to breakthrough!
WORKING EXPERIENCE
- conducted numerous seminars/workshops/camps on creativity and maths education for educators, parents and students in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Denmark, China, USA, Hong Kong, Czech Republic and Germany.
- conducted training of trainers programme for teachers and executives from the private sector.
- developed innovative teaching aids to make learning mathematics fun and effective.
- published an interesting maths kit entitled “Mathematical Magic and Craft: A fun way to develop mathematical thinking, problem-solving skills and creativity” with demo VCD (2002).
- developed m-WizyTM magic cards to facilitate understanding of mathematical concepts in a fun and magical way (2003)
- developing “Creative Maths” progamme for primary and secondary school students
- authored a parenting book entitled “Teaching Children Maths the Fun and Magical Way” (2004)
- published her third book entitled “Amazing Maths…Card Tricks” (2005)
